Passover: Spirit And Body

The famous verse in Pirkei Avot “If there is no flour, there is no Torah, and if there is no Torah, there is no flour” teaches us that without our physical bodies, there would be no avenue to do mitzvot and ascend spiritually and that without our soul, there would be no purpose to our bodies.

The fact that קמח, the Hebrew word for flour is the same numerical value as פסח, the holiday of Passover, teaches us that without our physical removal for Egypt, our souls would have never been able to reach the spiritual heights of receiving the Torah at Sinai.

This פסח, let’s remember to utilize our physicality for the good – to serve Hashem, and to serve each other, thereby improving ourselves and the world in the process.
